Taste of Ponce

It’s been a while since I’ve written and posted for Foodie Friday and I’m super excited to dive back into this aspect of my blog!

Ponce City Market is an industrial mall or marketplace located in the downtown area of Atlanta, GA. A place where you can shop, and dine and maybe walk the Beltline. You can also visit Skyline Park, an amusement park located on the rooftop area which has a lovely view of the Atlanta skyline. Ponce City Market is one of my favorite places to frequent, and you’ll probably see more posts featuring the area in the future.

Back to food! One of the amazing restaurants, which has quickly become one of my favorite spots, is Tasty China Jia. Tasty China Jia is a Szechuan inspired Chinese restaurant.

We, my roommate, sisters and I, made our way past some of the stores and other restaurants located on the first floor of the market until we found ourselves at Jia. We were then greeted by the hostess who offered to seat us indoors or outside. At the time of the visit it was a cool summer night and so we decided it would be best to sit outside and enjoy the end of a long day.

We were lead to the outdoor area and to a table fit for royalty. I promise I’m not posturing. The seats at the table were reminiscent of some of the royal benches and chairs I’ve seen in dramas and movies. And at the head of the table, was a throne fit for a queen. Ironically none of us sat in that chair.

We were each handed a brown woven booklet, our menus, and glasses of water. The four of us perused through the menu, decided on our dishes and ordered them. And let me tell you they were delicious!

I ordered the Double-Cooked pork, which I substituted with Beef. My roommate Nia and sister Jinell ordered the Three Pepper Chicken and my sister Mary-ann ordered the General Tso Chicken. We all enjoyed our meals and vowed we’d try what we each ordered the next time we came back.

If you have a penchant for spice, I definitely recommend ordering the Four Spice Chicken. If you love well-seasoned pork or beef with a mixture of spices that won’t burn your clean tongue off then the double cooked pork or beef might be the best choice for you. And if you want to have a staple Chinese-American dish I definitely recommend having their General Tso Chicken .

We had such a great time at Tasty China Jia and it has become one of my favorite go-to spots when I feel like visiting the downtown area.
