Say You Still Love Me – ARC Review

Synopsis – Goodreads

Life is a mixed bag for Piper Calloway.

On the one hand, she’s a twenty-nine-year-old VP at her dad’s multibillion-dollar real estate development firm, and living the high single life with her two best friends in a swanky downtown penthouse. On the other hand, she’s considered a pair of sexy legs in a male-dominated world and constantly has to prove her worth. Plus, she’s stuck seeing her narcissistic ex-fiancé—a fellow VP—on the other side of her glass office wall every day.

Things get exponentially more complicated for Piper when she runs into Kyle Miller—the handsome new security guard at Calloway Group Industries, and coincidentally the first love of her life.

The guy she hasn’t seen or heard from since they were summer camp counsellors together. The guy from the wrong side of the tracks. The guy who apparently doesn’t even remember her name.

Piper may be a high-powered businesswoman now, but she soon realizes that her schoolgirl crush is not only alive but stronger than ever, and crippling her concentration. What’s more, despite Kyle’s distant attitude, she’s convinced their reunion isn’t at all coincidental, and that his feelings for her still run deep. And she’s determined to make him admit to them, no matter the consequences.

This book is heart-wrenchingly good! I mean tears streaming down your face, ugly cry with a possible gurgle laugh good! Not just good great! This may be one of the best books I’ve read so far this year.

Now I will admit, that for a majority of the book it felt like a mix between the show Dynasty and the same teen summer camp story I’ve read or watched on the big screen before. And yes there were some cliché plot devices (if you read it, this an extreme insider lol) But K.A. Tucker’s writing style definitely keeps you wanting more, even if some of the scenes and moments feel predictable.

The story is told from Piper Calloway’s perspective and written in past and present format. The reader is brought along the journey of her love story with Kyle Miller back when they were 16 and 17-year old camp counselors at summer camp to now, where she’s set to take over her dad’s company Calloway Group. And he is a security guard for one of the company’s many buildings, which just so happened to be the building Piper’s working in.

Piper’s character and character development were, for lack of a better word, flawless. Why you ask? Because I related so well to a character who honestly on paper, nowhere near describes me at all. I mean I wish I was an heiress to a multi-million dollar company. (seriously, I wish!) But I love how down-to-earth she is, and I appreciated reading her inner monologue about work-related issues such as respect, loyalty, trust. And see her grow from this teenager who was head over heels in love with a boy to a (and you know I love this word) badass career woman. But what I appreciated the most was getting to experience all of the emotions and memories of her first love, Kyle.

Say You Still Love Me is a tale of class divides, true friendships, and a passionate first love. But in true K.A. Tucker fashion, there is treachery, heartbreak and acceptance that although everything is not what it seems, there’s room for growth and for friendship and love to start anew.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge K.A. Tucker fan, but I recommend this book to those who like a tense romance that packs a hard punch. And who isn’t afraid to go down memory lane about their own first love while reading someone else’s. And also if you just happen to already be a fan of K.A. Tucker, pick this up now!
