Hey Bookwyrms! I’m so excited to participate in Shanah’s (Bionic Book Worm) Top 5 Tuesday! If you’d like to check out the different prompts for May and participate, click here.
So I was a bit worried about this prompt because apart from obvious antagonists, I usually like rulers in books. Let’s see where this leads us!
King of Adarlan/ Dorian Havilliard I – Throne of Glass series

I automatically hated the King of Adarlan. He was just evil and mean-spirited and thats just the moments he was on the page. His past transgressions before Throne of Glass was abhorrent and I for one was ready for his demise … *whispers* until it happened.
Blackbeak Matron – Throne of Glass series

We’re introduced to the Ironteeth Witch Clans in the third book of the series, Heir of Fire. And when I thought I couldn’t hate anyone more than the King of Adarlan, the Blackbeak Matron came along and swiped the title from him. She is everything I hate about a villain. Merciless, heartless, selfish, she is all those things and more.
Beron Vanserra, High Lord of the Autumn Court – ACOTAR series

Simply put, he’s the very definition of an old cranky selfish bastard!
Tamlin, High Lord of the Spring Court – ACOTAR series

I saw things I didn’t like about Tamlin as a ruler from the first book in the series. I hated how he treated Lucien, his disregard for his subjects and I never bought into the whole “benevolent but broken” ruler he was portrayed as in A Court of Thorns and Roses. I think thats why it was so easy to dislike him in the second book. Four books later and I still despise him.
Amarantha – ACOTAR series

Amarantha’s my least favorite villain/ruler in the series. Mostly because she was one of the worst villains written in the series. However, I have to acknowledge that she was positively monstrous as a ruler. She did unspeakable things to innocent people and brought unimaginable pain to some of my favorite characters. She was ruthless more than she was cunning.
Well this turned into a Sarah J Maas post unexpectedly! Who are some of your worst rulers? Why? Let me know in the comments down below.

I forgot about the High Lord 9f the Autmn Court! Great list!

I was so tempted to put Tamlin on my list too but decided to give him a break from my eternal whining about how terrible he is lol. I love that your picks are all from Maas’s books. She really does know how to write some good villains.☺️
