Writing Partners – Writer Wednesday

Hey there fellow writers! It has been quite a while since I’ve put up a WW post. What is consistency in the middle of a pandemic amirite?

Today I wanted to discuss something life-changing! (at least it was for me) And that is Writing Buddies, Partners, Groups etc. Writing is hard work and you need to find your community. Peers that will push and motivate you, especially when you just don’t feel like sitting in front of the computer and working out that kink in your manuscript.

This year, I made a promise to myself that I was going to make a conscious effort to find and keep up with a few writing partners, and join a writing group. And although I consider myself a social person, I instantly began to feel overwhelmed by the idea of reaching out to people. There’s so much pressure I put on myself as a creative, and often times what stops me from taking that extra step, is that I know how easy it is for me to be a shit partner. To just drop off the face of the earth or push my writing back as much as possible.

But I took a chance and then and amazing opportunity came to me. About a month ago, I reached out to a friend who I’ve virtually known for a while now, and asked if she wouldn’t mind being my writing partner. I explained that I was complete shit at it, but I have a ton of story ideas that have been catching cobwebs in my brain or between the folds of the pages in my vast array of notebooks. You know what happened? She told me she understood, and she’d be honored to be my partner. Simple. Just like that. I almost thought I was being punk’d. Like it was way too easy.

And then about a week later, I met some lovely ladies on bookstagram! And within that group someone suggested making a writing chat, for those of us who could use a community for various stages of their journey. And let me tell you, I am so blessed to have them be apart of my life in this way. It’s amazing to know that when I need a writing sprint, or want to bounce around ideas that I can turn to these women at any time and they’ll be my motivators and will encourage me to start and finish!

I have seriously written more in the past month or so than I have in a year and it feels so amazing!

So, I encourage you to seriously find your people. If being apart of a group overwhelms you, find someone who will constantly push you and also be in your corner. It’s seriously the best thing I’ve done since starting this journey!

Until next time my soon to be best-selling author friends!
